Restoration

Fine restoration is not only an art, it is at times, nothing short of surgery, sometimes micro-surgery. Rare and valuable instruments deserve unlimited attention and consideration when being restored.

As a restorer, my first priority is to diagnose the problem/s with the instrument. This is done by discussion with the owner and by examining the instrument carefully. In restoration, less is more. Conserving maximum original material of the instrument while ensuring lasting strength and stability is the key. When grafted wood is required or studs and reinforcing straps need to be added, only old, well-matching tonewood is chosen and the extent of added material is kept to a minimum and strategically designed and positioned to preserve or enhance the sound of the instrument.
